The Nepal Family Cohort study adopts a life course epidemiological approach to gather comprehensive data on the environmental, behavioral, and metabolic risk factors affecting children and their parents. These factors influence children’s development into adulthood and the onset of specific diseases. Key risk factors, such as exposure to air pollution and lifestyle behaviors during childhood, may impair lung development and function, contributing to the early onset of respiratory diseases. Globally, respiratory diseases are on the rise, with Nepal experiencing the fastest rate of increase. While the cohort primarily focuses on respiratory health, it also assesses other health outcomes, including cardiovascular, metabolic, and mental health, offering a holistic perspective. Most health outcomes are self-reported based on doctor diagnoses, with some verified during follow-up through disease-specific markers. This study is expected to provide valuable insights into risk factors and inform policy recommendations.
